Many motorcycles leave the factory with a spare connector for additional consumers, switched by the ignition and separately fused. Without a matching counterpart it stays unused.
The supply is then tapped from the wiring harness. That means opening the insulation. The spot stays visible for good, is no longer protected against moisture and cannot be reversed without a trace. A model-specific connector avoids this: it clicks into the existing counterpart.

- Sealed designs: Most variants are sealed. The contact stays protected against splash water, even in an exposed mounting position.
- Fused supply: The factory connection is normally fused separately. No additional fuse holder needed.
- Mostly crimped: On most variants the terminals are already attached to leads. You only connect the free ends.
- Selection by reference number: If your model is not listed, the connector series identifies the part, for example Sumitomo MT090 or HM090.
Connection types on a motorcycle
The ignition-switched tap goes by different names depending on the manufacturer and the workshop literature: switched live, accessory live, terminal 15 or auxiliary consumer connection. All of them mean the same connection, switched through the ignition lock and live only when the ignition is on. Consumers therefore do not keep running once the motorcycle is parked.
Alongside it there is permanent live, present regardless of the ignition, and the diagnostic connector to ISO 19689. On most vehicles the diagnostic port carries permanent live, on some enduros switched live. Which one is present should be measured on the vehicle before connecting.
Connector series
Some of the variants use connectors made by Sumitomo. Documented are the MT090 and MT090-2 series on SUZUKI, YAMAHA and FANTIC, the sealed HM090 on DUCATI and HX060 on KAWASAKI. HONDA uses the V-21100 and V-21330 designs.
BMW uses different systems. The connection for the auxiliary socket takes a two-pin connector of the 1-1703498-1-PT design, while diagnostics and accessories use the three-pin Cartool or SZ connector with part number 83 30 0413 585.

On many KTM, HUSQVARNA and GASGAS models the ACC1 connection with permanent live and the ACC2 connection with switched live are provided as blade terminals. They work directly with the MOFESSOR chain oiler and the CUMPAN Cockpit Assistant, no additional connector required. If the number of slots is not enough, the ACC splitter extends the existing connection. Enduros have no ACC2 tap from the factory. There, an adapter plug at the four-pin headlight connector provides the supply, available for models up to 2023 and for models from 2024.
