Information on Waste Oil and Battery Disposal
Return of used waste oil
Under the German Waste Oil Ordinance (AltölV), we are required to take back the following used oils free of charge:
- combustion engine oils
- transmission (gear) oils
- oil filters
- oily waste that regularly arises during an oil change
Return quantity
We take back waste oil in the quantity corresponding to the amount of fresh oil you purchased from us (e.g. if you buy 4 litres of motor oil – return of up to 4 litres of waste oil).
Return in person
You can return the waste oil during our opening hours at the following address:
BEROTEC GmbH
Gewerbestr. 13
75057 Kürnbach
Germany
Please bring the waste oil in tightly sealed, break-proof containers. Alternatively, you can hand in the waste oil at a municipal collection point near you.
Important note
Waste oil is classified as dangerous goods. Shipping it by post or parcel service is therefore not permitted.
Take-back and disposal of starter batteries
As a seller of motorcycle starter batteries, we are required under the German Battery Act Implementation Act (BattDG) to take back used starter batteries free of charge, insofar as we carry or have carried such batteries as new batteries in our range. This take-back is free of charge and independent of whether you bought the battery from us.
Starter batteries must not be disposed of with household waste – you are legally obliged to return them properly.
Battery deposit
When you buy a new starter battery, we charge a statutory deposit of 7.50 euros including VAT, unless you return a used starter battery to us at the time of purchase.
Deposit refund and return options
We refund a deposit charged by us in one of the following ways:
- Return directly to us: If you hand in the used starter battery at our premises during our opening hours, we refund the deposit immediately.
- Return to another retailer: You can also hand in the battery at another retailer or business that sells or takes back starter batteries. Have the return confirmed there in writing or electronically (return certificate) and submit this certificate to us – we will then refund the deposit.
Important: Only a deposit charged by us can be refunded. At the time you submit it to us, the return certificate must not be older than two weeks. A certificate submitted later no longer meets the legal requirements for a deposit refund.
You can also hand in used starter batteries free of charge at a municipal collection point (recycling centre). A deposit refund is generally not possible there – for that you need a return certificate as described under point 2.
Return in person
You can return used starter batteries during our opening hours at the following address:
BEROTEC GmbH
Gewerbestr. 13
75057 Kürnbach
Germany
No shipping of waste batteries
Used starter batteries must not be sent to us by post or parcel service. Starter batteries are classified as dangerous goods; shipping is only permitted under strict dangerous-goods regulations and special transport conditions.
Labelling
Starter batteries are marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Batteries containing certain pollutants are additionally marked with the chemical symbols Pb (lead), Cd (cadmium) or Hg (mercury).
If you have any questions about returning waste oil or batteries or about refunding the battery deposit, you can reach us via our contact form.
