Chain oiler for the Yamaha TDM 850

Installation report by Nils

Yamaha TDM 850 – year of manufacture 1998

5 sections 5 photos

oil reservoir 60 ml

Attached in the right side panel with a cable tie – the highest protected point where the oil reservoir still has a reasonable slope.

metering valve

Made a 1.5 mm stainless steel plate and attached it to the upper rear fender, so that it sits reasonably protected but still lower than the oil reservoir.

nozzle

The nozzle is attached with the supplied clamp on the inside of the front sprocket guard and can be adjusted well there. For absolutely vibration-free fixing, another cable tie at the upper edge of the front sprocket cover serves the purpose. It is important that the last centimetre of tube slopes downwards, as otherwise the oil runs back along the tube and drips off at whatever the lowest point is!

switched 12 V supply

The switched positive is tapped directly at the fuse box, on the 7.5 A supply lead to the fan.

rain switch

It is fitted at the top right on the handlebar. The cable runs along the original wiring harness.
