This installation report shows the CUMPAN fitted to the Smart City Coupé (450) – with tachometer and water temperature gauge.

Installation report by Harald

Smart City Coupé (450) – year of manufacture 2002

This is how Harald solved the installation – unfortunately we cannot guarantee that it works correctly, as we were not able to check the installation ourselves.

Display

Attached to the centre console with double-sided tape.

Power supply

Power is taken from the cigarette lighter socket. The socket simply pulls forwards out of the dashboard. Contacts were placed onto the existing pins and the cable routed rearwards through the dashboard. On the right you can see the cable grommet from the engine bay into the cabin.

Engine temperature 1

Temperature sensor for the water temperature gauge.

Sensor used: M14×1,5

Replaces what is presumably the coolant drain plug – at the rear, bottom of the engine. Jack the rear of the car up well and you lose hardly any coolant when removing it. The cooling system should be bled afterwards, though. A longer heat-resistant sleeve was also fitted.

RPM

Tapping the RPM signal for the tachometer.

[SENS] setting: Sensor CAR

The crankshaft position sensor signal is tapped at the ECU connector. Yellow wire, no. 8.
