Depending on the motorcycle, the MOFESSOR oil line runs close to the header pipe or exhaust and along the swingarm, where stones and branches can hit it. Some electronic cables pass stressed areas such as the steering head. If the oil reservoir is mounted more or less horizontally, a little oil can escape from its vent. The Value Set adds the accessories for these installation situations and a second bottle of chain oil as a reserve to the MOFESSOR chain oiler.
Benefits
- Fibreglass heat sleeveProtects the oil line from heat at the header pipe and exhaust and from stones and branches at the swingarm.
- Spiral wrap 7–40 mmBundles cables and protects them at stressed points such as the steering head, even on lines that are already routed.
- Remote reservoir ventWith the oil reservoir mounted flat or across the direction of travel, no oil escapes from the vent.
- Spare hose 2 mA damaged oil line can be replaced or rerouted without placing a new order.
- Second bottle of chain oilSupply for refilling, also as a reserve on long tours.
Compatibility
The MOFESSOR fits motorcycles with chain drive and a switched 12 V supply. The installation reports show examples for more than 160 motorcycles.
In the box
- 1× MOFESSOR chain oiler
- 1× MOFESSOR chain oil 250 ml
- 1× remote reservoir vent, approx. 50 cm
- 1× heat sleeve 1 m, inner Ø 4.1 mm
- 1× spiral wrap 7–40 mm, 1 m
- 1× spare hose 2 m, 4×2.5 mm
The heat sleeve is pulled over the oil line before connecting it, as it does not fit over connectors. The chain oiler comes in the selected version, Standard (60 ml) or Long range (120 ml). Its full contents, including the first bottle of chain oil, are listed on the MOFESSOR chain oiler product page.

Basics & principle
What is an automatic chain oiler and how does it work?
An automatic chain oiler keeps the drive chain continuously supplied with a defined, minimal quantity of oil while you ride. The system meters the oil on a timed basis and applies it directly to the chain, so an even, lasting oil film builds up as you ride.
What are the benefits of an automatic chain oiler, and when does it make sense?
An automatic chain oiler provides continuous minimum-quantity lubrication of the drive chain while riding. This maintains an even oil film for the entire ride.
Keeping the chain consistently lubricated reduces wear on the chain and sprockets. An automatic chain oiler makes sense for riders who want to spend less time on chain lubrication and adjustment, keep drivetrain wear to a minimum and value an even, clean state of lubrication.
How does a chain oiler differ from chain spray?
A chain oiler lubricates the drive chain continuously while riding, using a defined minimum quantity of oil. Chain spray is applied from time to time and only works for a limited period. It is formulated for high adhesion and therefore picks up more dirt in use; its lubricating effect decreases steadily from the moment it is applied.
The difference lies in the lubrication principle: continuous oil application while riding versus lubrication that only lasts for a limited time.
How much oil does an automatic chain oiler use?
An automatic chain oiler uses very little oil, as it works on the principle of continuous minimum-quantity lubrication while riding. The delivery rate is set so that only as much oil is applied as an even oil film requires. Consumption is typically in the low double-digit millilitre range per 1,000 km.
How clean is an automatic chain oiler?
With the MOFESSOR, oil is applied directly to the chain as continuous minimum-quantity lubrication. Only as much oil is applied as a stable oil film requires.
When correctly installed, it leaves far less mess than chain spray. A light oil mist may appear on the rim, but it wipes off easily.
Is the system waterproof and suitable for everyday use?
The system is designed for motorcycles that are permanently exposed to the elements. Sealing, electronics and connectors were engineered with this in mind right from the development stage.
The rain switch is IP67-certified, and the control unit is potted to make it waterproof and vibration-proof. The metering valve and rain switch have waterproof connectors.
The MOFESSOR has been tested under real-world conditions on the road and off-road, where it is exposed to more water and dirt.
Are there independent tests or reviews of the MOFESSOR?
The MOFESSOR has been on the market since 2017 and has covered many thousands of kilometres on a wide range of motorcycles in real-world riding. In addition, an endurance test simulating 100,000 km was carried out on a test bench.
External reviews (in German) have been published on sites including ttmotorbikeblog.wordpress.com and motorradreisefuehrer.de. The MOFESSOR was also included in a chain oiler comparison test in the TOURENFAHRER March 2024 issue of the German motorcycle magazine.
Installation & compatibility
Which motorcycles does the MOFESSOR chain oiler fit?
The MOFESSOR is designed as a universal system and can in principle be fitted to any chain-driven motorcycle. Many typical installation situations were taken into account during development to allow flexible installation. Because motorcycle layouts differ, the mounting location and electrical connection options are chosen for each specific motorcycle. For many popular models, model-specific connectors are available. Model-specific installation notes are available for selected models and are continually being added in the “Installation on your motorcycle” tab.
Can I install the MOFESSOR myself, or do I need specialist knowledge?
The MOFESSOR is designed so that, in most cases, you can install it yourself with basic technical skills. Its modular design allows it to be adapted flexibly to different motorcycles and installation situations.
Electrical
How is the MOFESSOR connected electrically?
The MOFESSOR is connected to the motorcycle battery and to a switched 12 V supply. This ensures the system is only active when the ignition is on.
Suitable connectors are available for many motorcycles. Alternatively, it can be connected to suitable switched 12 V circuits on the motorcycle.
How much power does the MOFESSOR draw?
The MOFESSOR runs on the motorcycle’s 12 V on-board voltage. Its power consumption is low:
- Switched input current: approx. 20 mA (0.02 A)
- Supply current: up to 500 mA (0.5 A)
Is the MOFESSOR compatible with modern on-board electronics (CAN bus, LED lighting)?
Yes. The MOFESSOR is compatible with modern on-board electronics. The system runs on a switched 12 V supply and works independently of CAN bus systems and LED lighting. It does not interfere with the motorcycle’s communication network and draws only the electrical power it needs to operate.
Oil application & metering
How does the MOFESSOR apply the oil?
While you ride, the oil is applied through a nozzle. It is metered onto the drive chain at defined intervals, and the movement of the chain spreads it into an even oil film.
Where is the nozzle mounted, and why there?
The nozzle can be mounted at the front sprocket or at the rear sprocket. At the rear sprocket, oil consumption is usually lower and lubrication more effective. Whichever position you choose, the nozzle must be mounted securely and in a protected spot.
How is the oil quantity adjusted?
The oil quantity is set on the control unit using a 10-position switch. While riding, the delivery rate can be increased at any moment using the rain switch.
How big is the oil reservoir, and how long does one fill last?
The 60 ml standard oil reservoir is designed for a real-world range of at least 5,000 km. The 120 ml long-range oil reservoir is designed for a range of at least 10,000 km. The dimensions of both oil reservoirs are shown in the accompanying illustration.
Operation & maintenance
How much maintenance does it need day to day?
Day-to-day maintenance is minimal.
The system works automatically while you ride and essentially only needs the oil reservoir topping up from time to time. Checking the chain’s lubrication regularly is all that is required. Thanks to continuous lubrication, the chain stays evenly lubricated. Depending on riding conditions, an occasional clean may be worthwhile to remove dirt from the outside.
What happens during long periods of storage or seasonal use?
When the motorcycle is laid up or only used seasonally, the MOFESSOR stays inactive, because oil is only delivered when the ignition is on. When switched off, the system draws no current and is completely passive, with no effect on the drivetrain, battery or electrical system.
