    A dashboard on a motorcycle brings the machine's readings together on one display. Many models show only speed and mileage as standard – RPM, the engaged gear, engine temperature or oil pressure are missing. These readings can be added with a retrofit instrument.

    Such an instrument is connected to a switched 12 V supply. The readings come either from existing vehicle signals or from additional sensors fitted at defined measuring points on the engine.
