Many motorcycles leave the factory without a USB port, and retrofitted sockets are often too bulky for a clean installation. On the road, vibration and water wear down socket and connector until the contacts fail, the connector kinks or the socket works loose. If the socket delivers too little power, your GPS runs flat on a ride despite being plugged in. This USB-C socket is designed around exactly these points: just 44×22×12 mm, electronics encapsulated in resin, connector supported and 36 W of charging power.
Benefits
- 44×22×12 mmFits wherever larger sockets have no room.
- Electronics encapsulated in resin, IP67Rain, spray and vibration cannot reach the electronics.
- Protective boot around the socketSupports connector and cable so vibration wears out neither connector nor socket, and keeps dirt and moisture away from the contacts.
- 36 W continuousDelivers 12 V at 3 A – more than a smartphone or tablet draws while navigating with the screen on.
- 6.3 mm blade terminalsPlug straight into the ACC connections on KTM, HUSQVARNA and GASGAS without an adapter, and into any 12 V electrical system via an adapter.
- Fork-leg versionThe curved mounting surface sits directly against the fork leg, putting the socket within reach of the handlebar without an extra mount.
Compatibility
- All motorcycles with a 12 V electrical system | directly or with an adapter
Without an ACC connection, the socket is connected via adapters: the 12 V supply via the 12 V motorcycle connector that matches the motorcycle or the fuse tap, and earth via the ring terminal adapter, which fits earth points with screws up to M6.
If the ACC connection is already in use, the ACC splitter divides it. For mounting locations further away, the ACC extension cable extends the connection cable by 50 cm.
In the box
- 1× USB-C socket 36 W
- 1× 3M VHB adhesive pad
If you connect directly to the battery or to a circuit fused at more than 10 A, an additional fuse rated at max. 10 A is recommended. It is not included.
Compatibility
Does the USB-C socket fit my motorcycle?
Yes, on any motorcycle with a 12 V electrical system. On models with an ACC connection and 6.3 mm blade terminals, the socket plugs onto ACC1 or ACC2 without an adapter. Without this connection, the 12 V motorcycle connector that matches the motorcycle or the fuse tap provides the 12 V supply and the ring terminal adapter provides earth, without modifying the wiring harness.
Which USB-C cables fit into the protective boot of the USB-C socket?
Cables with an oval plug housing. The protective boot fits tightly around the plug so that it can support and seal it. Plug housings with a square or wide cross-section do not fit.
Installation and connection
Do I need a fuse for my USB-C socket?
Only when connected directly to the battery or to a circuit fused at more than 10 A. In that case, an additional fuse of max. 10 A is recommended. It is not included.
Function
Does the USB-C socket drain my motorcycle’s battery?
Not on switched live, but on permanent live it will after a few weeks. On a switched connection such as ACC2, the socket carries no power when the ignition is off. On permanent live it draws a standby current of 1 mA, and even this small current drains the battery during longer periods of standstill. Without switched live, use a battery isolator switch or the 12V Battery Guard, or only run the socket on permanent live if the motorcycle is ridden regularly.
Does the USB-C socket fast-charge my smartphone?
Yes. Current iPhones and Android smartphones charge via USB Power Delivery, Samsung devices additionally via PPS, and older Android devices via Quick Charge 3.0.
