To retrofit a wideband lambda sensor, your header pipe needs a weld-in bung with the right thread. With this mail-in service, the bung is professionally welded in at the BEROTEC Motorrad workshop for a fixed price. Your header pipe comes back with a checked thread and a blanking plug.
Benefits
- TIG welding with back purgingShielding gas inside the pipe keeps the weld root free from heat tint and corrosion.
- Low heat inputPipe and thread stay dimensionally accurate, even on thin-walled header pipes from 1 mm wall thickness.
- M18×1.5 or M12×1.25 threadSuits wideband and narrowband sensors such as the BOSCH LSU 4.9. Other threads on request.
- Bung in 1.4301 stainless steel (AISI 304)Corrosion-resistant.
- Weld finishingHeat tint removed from the outside, so the surface stays corrosion-resistant.
- Thread checkedSensor or plug screws in with a precise fit.
- Welded in KürnbachBacked by 10 years of TIG welding experience in steel, stainless steel, aluminium and titanium.
How it works
- Order Order the mail-in service for the first bung. Additional bungs on request.
-
Mark the position Degrease the spot and mark the centre of the bung with a cross using a permanent marker. The right position depends on your motorcycle and sensor, and it is your call.
- Fit the sensor from above, roughly between the 10 and 2 o’clock positions, with the tip angled downwards at least 10° from horizontal. This stops condensate collecting on the sensor.
- Keep to the distance from the exhaust port specified by the sensor manufacturer.
- Allow clearance for the sensor, connector and cable.
- Any questions? Just get in touch by email or phone.
-
Send in the header pipe
- Header pipe cleaned, without sensor, heat shield or clamps.
- Pipe ends padded.
- Send it with a carrier of your choice and enclose your order number.
- Return shipping Processing takes 3–5 working days from receipt.
Compatibility
- Stainless steel header pipes, uncoated and free of cracks
- Wall thickness from 1 mm
- Titanium header pipes
- Ceramic- or black-coated header pipes
- Bung in the catalytic converter area
Suitability is checked before welding. An unsuitable header pipe is returned unprocessed, and you only pay for shipping.
In the box
- 1× weld-in bung, 1.4301 stainless steel
- 1× sealing washer
- 1× blanking plug
Not included: removal and refitting on the motorcycle, or repairs.
Compatibility
Which thread do I need for my lambda sensor?
Usually M18×1.5. Wideband sensors such as the BOSCH LSU 4.9 use this thread, while M12×1.25 is mainly found on smaller narrowband sensors. The sensor’s data sheet is what counts.
Can a bung be welded into my titanium header pipe?
No. Bungs are currently only welded into stainless steel header pipes.
What happens if my header pipe isn’t suitable?
It is returned unprocessed. Suitability is checked before welding, and in that case you only pay for shipping.
Welding
Will my header pipe warp during welding?
No. Welding is done with low heat input, even on thin-walled pipes from 1 mm wall thickness. This keeps pipe and thread dimensionally accurate.
Bung position
Where should the bung sit on my header pipe?
That depends on your motorcycle and sensor, and is decided before you send the pipe in. The notes in the “Description” tab set out the guidelines. If you’re unsure, you can clarify the position in advance by email or on +49 7258 2009090.
Road legality
Will the bung invalidate my motorcycle’s type approval?
This has to be checked case by case. Depending on national regulations, modifications to the exhaust system can affect the type approval (in Germany: § 19 StVZO). For road use, the bung must be sealed tight with a plug or sensor. Choosing the position and ensuring road legality are the responsibility of the registered keeper.
