The CUMPAN Cockpit Assistant shows engine temperature, RPM and optionally oil pressure, lambda, voltage, gear or coolant temperature as a live reading. How the engine behaves or changes over the long term cannot be read from this: a value that was not on screen during the ride cannot be reconstructed later. Wear and incipient engine damage usually develop gradually and often only become noticeable once it is already too late.
The data logger is the engine's flight recorder: it records every ride without interfering with signals from the CUMPAN or the vehicle. It connects to the existing signal lines and records the engine and riding data. After the ride, the analysis assistant reads these files and makes acute problems visible, or compares the measurements against the state at the last analysis. Every change becomes directly visible.

Measurement analysis
A single reading says little. A meaningful assessment is only possible from the trend across many rides and from comparing identical operating points. The analysis assistant plots these trends, shows deviations from your own baseline and evaluates them. Typical patterns, by way of example:
- Rising or falling oil pressure: identify oil dilution, a worn oil pump or blocked oil galleries.
- Long-term tuning: in combination with a wideband sensor, the mixture is recorded across all operating conditions, not just on the dyno at full load. Rich and lean running can therefore be assessed where they actually occur in riding: in the part-load range, on the overrun and during warm-up.
- Thermal load: temperature peaks appear together with RPM, speed and riding time, not just as a maximum value.
- Identify systematic problems: assess rough running or misfires in relation to engine temperature and RPM.
- Voltage monitoring: identify an ageing rectifier or insufficient charging output from the alternator.
The analysis describes the trend and puts it in context. The finding is a change from your own baseline, together with the operating condition under which it occurs.
Technical concept
Six inputs are tapped in parallel. RPM and speed are captured as pulses via a dedicated input stage, the direct engine temperature is measured via a reaction-free amplifier stage, and the three analogue inputs are freely assignable. Distance travelled, riding time, cold starts and crankshaft revolutions are calculated from these signals and recorded continuously. To record speed and riding time, a speed signal must be connected, for example from the speedometer or from a reed sensor.
The data logger is connected to a switched 12 V supply. Sensor signal cables are connected via a branch connector or directly. All CUMPAN sensors and add-ons can be used. Third-party sensors with a signal range of 0–5 V can also be connected and are recorded automatically. The raw data is assigned and converted only during analysis.

Installation and compatibility
Does the data logger fit my existing CUMPAN?
Yes. The data logger is designed to be retrofitted to units already fitted. Replacing the display unit is not necessary.
Do new signals have to be tapped on the vehicle for the data logger?
No. The data logger shares the signals already present at the CUMPAN. Additional taps on the vehicle's wiring harness are not required.
Does the data logger work without a CUMPAN?
The three analogue inputs and the two pulse inputs work independently and need no CUMPAN. Only the direct input for engine temperature (NTC) requires a CUMPAN in order to record the temperature.
Which sensors are required?
The data logger records whatever is connected. RPM, speed and engine temperature come from the CUMPAN. Oil pressure and lambda require the corresponding add-ons; these are not part of the delivery.
Recording and data
Does recording have to be started?
No. Recording begins when the ignition is switched on and ends when it is switched off. There are no controls on the unit.
How long does the supplied card last?
The 32 GB card lasts for over 10,000 operating hours. In normal use, storage is not a limiting factor.
Where is the data Held?
On the card in the unit. No data is transmitted, there is no online service and there are no running costs. The card is removed for analysis and read on a computer.
Analysis
Is a background in measurement technology required?
No. The analysis assistant reads the files from the card and produces the analysis in a single step. The raw data is available as CSV and remains open for your own analyses.
Does the analysis detect engine damage?
It shows changes from your own baseline and the operating condition under which they occur. A finding therefore becomes visible before the damage. It does not replace an assessment of individual components inside the engine; a workshop inspection remains necessary for that.
How often should an analysis be run?
A sensible rhythm is an analysis at each service. Every analysis is the reference point for the following period.
